MYFOXNY.COM – Are Facebook and Google Plus in a social network feud?
Google + launched this summer and claims to already have 25 million users. Its games section launched Aug. 11 and will potentially eat into Facebook’s audience.
Facebook users are spreading the word about Google Plus on Facebook and Facebook users are sharing Google+ invite links on their Facebook walls.
Google claimed this week that Facebook is actively blocking these invites. Facebook denies the claim. Facebook says it has a display-filtering technology that helps prevent spam, which almost always includes a link. As a result, it is possible for this system to exclude a certain link from re-appearing on a user’s News Feed if it has previously been posted several times.
Facebook has 750 million users. Google tried Google Wave about a year ago and it didn’t catch on.
Chris Dessi appeared on Thursday’s Good Day New York to discus the issue.

MYFOXNY.COM - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chief Digital Officer Rachel Sterne unveiled the Road Map for the Digital City on Monday.

“Any organization, in the public or private sector, that wants to be a leader in customer service must be a leader in digital media,” Bloomberg said. “New York City already excels in the field in many ways, but, as our first Chief Digital Officer Rachel Sterne has outlined, there is more we can do, and we will. We want New York City to be the nation’s premier digital City – in how local government interacts with New Yorkers, in how New Yorkers have access to and capitalize on new technologies, and in how our tech and digital media sectors evolve, grow businesses and create jobs. The Road Map for the Digital City will help us get there.”

EMT Fired Over Facebook Post?
MYFOXNY.COM — An EMT named Dawnmarie Souza from Connecticut was fired after criticizing her supervisor on Facebook. Then she traded expletive-filled comments with co-workers.
However the National Labor Relations Board said she was fired illegally, citing a federal labor law that protects employees who talk about their jobs on their own time.
The NLRB issued a statement: “It’s the same as talking at the water cooler… the point is that employees have protection under the law to talk to each other about conditions at work.”
But the company, American Medical Response of Connecticut, acknowledged the Facebook post played a role in the firing, but said “The employee in question was discharged based on multiple, serious complaints about her behavior.”

Pastor to Married Leaders: Delete Facebook
NEPTUNE, N.J. (AP) – A New Jersey pastor is telling his married church leaders to delete Facebook or resign.
The Rev. Cedric Miller says much of his recent marital counseling has included infidelity stemming from the social-network website.
The leader of Living Word Christian Fellowship Church in Neptune says Facebook is reigniting old passions. His plan was first reported by the Asbury Park Press.
Miller already had asked married couples among his 1,100 congregants to share their Facebook passwords with each other. He says the reaction to that request was mixed.
He says on Sunday that he will also “strongly suggest” that all married parishioners give up Facebook altogether. *
